Majorca is a fantastic island to drive around. It has dramatic mountain scenery with picturesque cliffs and winding roads which pass through some breathtaking countryside.

The route:

An excellent route is to drive from Palma to Fornalutx which is a beautiful village nestled in the Soller Valley. The drive can be done in a couple of hours, allowing for you to stop and take photos of the amazing scenery as well as exploring some of the truly beautiful Mallorcan villages on the way.

On leaving Palma you need to get on to the Via Cintura and take the exit signposted Valldemossa, Its worth stopping in Valldemossa for a coffee and patisserie as it’s a sweet little village to explore. From Valldemossa you can then follow the coast along the northwest side of the island. The road hugs the coast and there are some amazing views and places to stop and take beautiful pictures from along the way.

As you continue on your way to Fornalutx, you will need to head inland slightly as the village is nestled in the Soller Valler with the spectacular Sierra Tramuntuna Mountains as the backdrop.

Surrounded by olive, orange and lemon groves, Fornalutx is a really pretty village and is regularly voted as one of the most beautiful villages on Majorca. As you enter the village there is a small car park where you can leave your car and explore the village on foot. You'll find a great map of the town painted onto a mosaic, very cute.
It takes about 10 minutes in total to walk around the village but with its beautiful narrow stepped streets and sweet church overlooking the village square, it’s a great place to explore and discover the true Mallorca.

There is a great restaurant in the village square where you can relax, sit back and watch the world go by. Make sure that you take some photos of the breath taking panoramic views across the Sierra de Tramuntana Mountains.
