This lovely drive traverses the central plain of Mallorca, following some of the old Roman roads through stunning almond and apricot groves on its way to several of the small market towns on the island.

The route:

Start off in the sleepy little village of Petra, and from there follow signs towards Santa Margalida, you can stop to have an wander around or you can bypass Santa Margalida and bear left on the road following the signs towards Muro.

When you arrive in Muro, its worth taking the Carrer Major which take you up to the museum of Muro, its well worth a visit.
If you’re not going to visit the museum, continue along Carrer Major and cross over the crossroads, which takes you past the church of Sant Joan Baptista towards Sa Pobla.

You'll then drive past beautiful red earth potato fields with numerous windmills dotted across the landscape. In the distance you’ll see the mountains.
From Sa Pobla, follow signs onto Llubi, when you reaching Llubi follow the road uphill into the village and then back down again to make it to the main road. Cross the road and take the narrow track towards Sineu.

On driving to Sineu you'll again be driving through the beautiful Mallorca countryside, it’s really worth having your camera available so you can capture some of the beautiful scenery. On entering the town, you'll come across a very modern sculpture, it’s worth a closer look.

Follow signs to Sant Joan and then from Sant Joan turn right and follow the road towards Montuiri, which is worth a brief stop for a coffee and to stretch your legs. On leaving Montuiri you'll cross the Palma/Manacor highway by the Orquidea pearl shop and you need to make sure that you follow the signs for Porreres. A short detour will take you up to the Santuari de Montesio if you fancy it.

Leave Porreres in the direction of Vilafranca de Bonany and turn left in Vilafranca and pass Els Calderers on your right. You could visit the stately home of Els Calderers taking a short cut to Sant Joan. Take the next right turn to Sant Joan, from where you can return to Petra.

There is breath taking views of the Ermita de Bonany and of Petra church as you approach.
